"The word "waliyy" is linguistically derived from "wala`", which means closeness and giving victory. A "waliyy" of Allah, then, is someone who draws close to Allah by performing everything that has been made obligatory for him. He is busied by Allah [from everything else] and his heart is drowned in direct experience of the light of Allah's majesty. Whenever he looks [at anything], he sees it as something that points to Allah's omnipotence; whenever he hears [anything], he hears it as something that reminds him of Allah; whenever he speaks, he speaks praises of Allah; whenever he moves, he moves to obey Allah; and whenever he exerts himself, he exerts himself in something that draws him closer to Allah. He never slackens in the remembrance of Allah, and his heart beholds none except Allah. This is a description of the "awliya'" of Allah. Whenever a servant of Allah fits this description, Allah is his friend, gives him victory, and helps him: Allah Most High says [in a verse in Surat al-Baqara], "Allah is the friend of those who believe.""

"Abu Hurayrah Radhi'Allahu'anhu relates that Rasulullah Sal'Allahu'alayhiwasalam said, “My Ummah were given five things for Ramadhaan which were not given to anyone except them. For them, the smell from the mouth of a fasting person is more sweeter to Allah than the fragrant smell of musk. On their behalf the fish in the sea seek forgiveness for the fasting persons until they break their fast. Allah prepares and decorates a special garden in Jannah everyday and then says (to it), “The time is near when faithful servants shall cast aside the great trials of the world and come to you”. In this month (for them) evil-minded Shaytaan is chained so as not to reach unto those evils to which they normally reach during other months besides Ramadhaan. On the last night of Ramadhaan they are forgiven”.

The Sahaabah Radhi'Allahu'anhum wa anhuma thereupon enquired, “0 Messenger of Allah, is that last night Laylatul Qadr? Rasulullah Sal'Allahu'alayhiwasalam replied, “No. But it is only right that a servant should be given his reward on having completed his service”.

How can one attempt to describe a thing that is only diminished by words and known through experience? A place that inspires words but can never be encompassed or understood through verse or song? With people w/ the face of paupers and the hearts of princes, mouths aching for food but overflowing with inspiration, where the common man is a poet and the the distinguished man is a saint...i would write poetry of them, but even poetry is an insult for a people whose daily lives living museuems of art....

I would write for your oh kharabsheh, and spread across the world reflections of your beauty, but the overflowing words inspired by this land drowns any attempts of expression, the light of beauty emitted by this neighborhood and its beautiful people blind the wandering traveller who peers down at it from a mountain top like Moses on Sinai. Never have i felt so inspired and yet the pen is dry, maybe because ink would only stain your beautiful landscape, only the silent lover is allowed to enter, the drunk poet is left with the camels

In the eyes of these sufis one sees secrets that their humility tries to hide but their Nur betrays...they toil in the day and find rest at night in beds of prostration, they are awake in the night and the day, so that when others awaken to a horrifying day, these striving seekers of God can find their rest...

A complaint in this neighborhood is a sin and a sin is a travesty...how can one beg at the house of God, holding its door with other hand while with the other hand, push beyond the bounds of the Shariah. This city is a constant circle of dhikr, whoever comes is blessed, whoever accidentally enters and lingers, is forgiven.

The corners speak to us, telling us stories of old scholars, bent over in their honored niches late at night, reading texts over and over, praying to God for understanding, angels encompassing them. The corners seem to eagerly miss them like the bride missing her newlywed, who has gone off to war. They complain of its new dwellers who use their holy ground for sleeping when it was made to prostrate and weep over, the ground grows dry when their is no weeping and angelic presence does not last long on dry land

Poetry is weak, no matter how much i press it cannot pass the surface, the pen break, the ink spills and the meaning is yet to be conveyed
The poet becomes frustrated and exhausted and lies his paper to rest
Only then does he realize the hidden secret, in his submission he reaches the essence of this blessed village, neighborhood
Poetry is analogy and only worldly things contain analogies

When one is amongst the angels, in sacred space, with nur spread over you like the Prophet's cloak, what analogy can suffice

I realize that i am not in Kharabsheh at all, I'm in Medina
And those around me are the closest we have of tasting that city
Bilals adhan, Ali's double blades, Hamza's heroic stance
I am in a village that mimics their Beloved with a lover's passion
No detail is mundane no length excessive

So maybe this beauty i have been trying to describe is a hint of medina
In a world that has forgotten its winding alleys, smiling faces, and overwhelming love
In a world that has forgotten Prophetic peace

Do not expect me back home... "

002.020 يَكَادُ الْبَرْقُ يَخْطَفُ أَبْصَارَهُمْ كُلَّمَا أَضَاءَ لَهُمْ مَشَوْا فِيهِ وَإِذَا أَظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَامُوا وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَذَهَبَ بِسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَارِهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
The lightning all but snatches away their sight; every time the light (Helps) them, they walk therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath power over all things.

002.021 يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
O ye people! Adore your Guardian-Lord, who created you and those who came before you, that ye may have the chance to learn righteousness;

002.022 الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأرْضَ فِرَاشًا وَالسَّمَاءَ بِنَاءً وَأَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقًا لَكُمْ فَلا تَجْعَلُوا لِلَّهِ أَنْدَادًا وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
Who has made the earth your couch, and the heavens your canopy; and sent down rain from the heavens; and brought forth therewith Fruits for your sustenance; then set not up rivals unto Allah when ye know (the truth).

002.023 وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا فَأْتُوا بِسُورَةٍ مِنْ مِثْلِهِ وَادْعُوا شُهَدَاءَكُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
And if ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Sura like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (If there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true.

Toh hum par zaroori hai, hum par lazim hai key hum iss naimat koh dehk'ain hum iss ka faidaa na utaa'ain, hum dehkain key yai Allah ki naimat, sabsey bardi naimat Allah ney baghair maangey humkoh Deydi'hai, toh hum agar iska shukr ata kareyngai toh Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala hummey zada imaan ataa Farma'aingai"

*Translation: Allah's biggest blessing is the wealth of this Imaan. Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala gave us this imaan, without any of us here having asked"Oh Allah give us imaan," without asking for it Allah bestowed this great blessing upon us. It becomes mandatory upon us, obligatory upon us that we see this blessing for what it is and we do not take advantage of it, that we see this is a blessing from Allah, The Greatest Blessing that we could have recieved and that without having hasked for it Allah gave it to us. So if we show thankfulness for this blessing, Allah will increase us in imaan." [Insha'Allah.]

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah Radhi'Allahu'anhu from the Prophet Sal'Allahu'alayhiwasalam, who said:

Allah (glorified and exalted be He) has supernumerary angels who rove about seeking out gatherings in which Allah's name is being invoked: they sit with them and fold their wings round each other, fillin that which is between them and between the lowest heaven. When [the people in the gathering] depart, [the angels] ascend and rise up to heaven. He (the Prophet Sal'Allahu'alayhiwasalam) said: Then Allah (mighty and sublime be He) asks them - [though] He is most knowing about them: From where have you come? And they say: We have come from some servants of Yours on Earth: they were glorifying You (Subhana llah), exalting you (Allahu akbar), witnessing that there is no god but You (La ilaha illa llah), praising You (Al-Hamdu lillah), and asking [favours] of You. He says: And what do they ask of Me? They say: They ask of You Your Paradise. He says: And have they seen My Paradise? They say: No, O Lord. He says: And how would it be were they to have seen My Paradise! They say: And they ask protection of You. He says: From what do they ask protection of Me? They say: From Your Hell-fire, O Lord. He says: And have they seen My Hell-fire? They say: No. He says: And how would it be were they to have seen My Hell-fire: They say: And they ask for Your forgiveness. He (the Prophet Sal'Allahu'alayhiwasalam) said: Then He says: I have forgiven them and I have bestowed upon them what they have asked for,and I have granted them sanctuary from that from which they asked protection. He (the Prophet Sal'Allahu'alayhiwasalam) said: They say: O Lord, among them is So-and-so, a much sinning servant, who was merely passing by and sat down with them. He (the Prophet Sal'Allahu'alayhiwasalam) said: And He says: And to him [too] I have given forgiveness: he who sits with such people shall not suffer.

While leaving a wedding we spotted quite a few plates of touched and unfinished Mango ice cream. Truly an insult to icecream everywhere! Okay this wasn't in extravagance but let's try to not waste food insha'Allah....when we make it, buy it, or even when someones' feeding us, and especially when its Mango ice cream that even normal everyday people crave! Mango icecream can't be found everywhere you know, this is not sub-continent...Besides who wastes Mango icecream anyway?

And He (glorified and exalted be He) said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. Then he sinned again and said: O Lord, forgive me my sin. And He (glorified and exalted be He) said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for them. Then he sinned again and said: O Lord, forgive me my sin. And He (glorified and exalted be He) said: My servant has committed a sin and has known that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for sins. Do what you wish, for I have forgiven you.

As for those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is Forgiveness and a great Reward.

وَأَسِرُّوا قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ اجْهَرُوا بِهِ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ
And whether ye hide your word or publish it, He certainly has (full) knowledge, of the secrets of (all) hearts.

أَلا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ
Should He not know,- He that created? and He is the One that understands the finest mysteries (and) is well-acquainted (with them).

هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأرْضَ ذَلُولا فَامْشُوا فِي مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا مِنْ رِزْقِهِ وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
It is He Who has made the earth manageable for you, so traverse ye through its tracts and enjoy of the Sustenance which He furnishes: but unto Him is the Resurrection.

So who follows me, is verily of me, and Jesus said: If you punish them, they are Your slaves. If You forgive them, You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. Then he raised his hands and said: O Allah! My Ummah, (people) My Ummah and wept. So Allah said: O Jibrael! Go to Muhammad- though your Lord knows best - and ask him: What makes you weep? So Jibrael came to him and asked him (about the matter). Allah's Messenger informed him of what he had said - though Allah knows best. When Jibrael reported to Allah, He said: O Jibrael! Go back to Muhammad and say: We will please you with regard to your Ummah and We will not cause you any harm."

"Verily my soul which is laden evil did not heed the advice.
Due to its ignorance, from the warning by grey hair and old age.
And I have not prepared, for good deeds, a feast,
For a guest (that) has lodged on (my) head nor did I honour (him).
Had I known that I would not be able to honour him (it).
I would have concealed my secret, which is exposed, by dyeing.
Who is there that can restrain my wayward-self from its waywardness.
Just as unmanageable horses are restrained by resins.
Do not try, through sinning, to subdue sensual desires.
For verily food, only increases sensual desires.
Your self (desires) is like when breastfed.
Loves suckling but when you wean it, will stop.
Then stop its inclinations and beware that it does not overpower you.
Verily lust whenever it overpowers (it will) kill or maim (your character).
And guard it while it is grazing in (the field of ) actions
If it enjoys pasture, do not let it roam (graze) freely.
How often has pleasure been considered good, whereas it turned out to be deadly.
Because he does not know that there is poison in the fat.
And fear the evil of (both) hunger and satiation.
For most times hungers (poverty) is more evil that overeating.
And shed tears from those eyes which have become full.
Of forbidden sights and regard it as obligatory (upon yourself) to guard your eyes from forbidden things.
And oppose (your) self (nafs) and shaytaan and disobey them both.
And if both of them give you sincere advice regard it as lies.
And do not obey them both (nafs and shaytaan) as an enemy or as a wise (person).
For you know well the deception of (such) an enemy or a wise (person).
I seek forgiveness from Allah from such sayings (preachings) which I do practice upon.
For verily I have attributed (claimed), through this, offspring from a barren woman.
I command you to do good but I do not command myself to do the same.
And I was not steadfast ( on deen) so then of what use (value) is my saying to you: "Be steadfast!" (on deen).
And I made no provisions before death of voluntary (nafl) worship.
And I did not perform salaat nor did I fast except what was obligatory."

If you but steer it so,

On the authority of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari Radhi'Allahuanhu from the Prophet Sal'Allahualayhiwasalam is that among the sayings he Sal'Allahualayhiwasalam relates from his Lord Subhanahu wa ta'ala is that He said:

O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you, O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefitting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him finds good praise Allah and let him who finds other that blame no one but himself.

Light upon Light! Allah guides to His Light whom He wills. And Allah sets forth parables for mankind, and Allah is All-Knower of everything."

It has been reported from Abd Allah ibn `Amr ibn al-`As (Allah be pleased with him), that “Whoever fasts `Ashura’ it is as if he has fasted the entire year. And whoever gives charity this day it is like the charity of an entire year.”

It is a day in which Allah forgave an entire people. Tirmidhi relates that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said to a man, “If you want to fast a month after Ramadan, then fast Muharram, for it has a day in which Allah forgave an entire people, and He turns to others in repentance in.” ~Tirmidhi

And those who remain patient, seeking their Lords Countenance, perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of that which We have bestowed on them, secretly and openly, and defend evil with good, for such there is a good end; Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting Gardens), which they shall enter and (also) those who acted righteously from among their fathers, and their wives, and their offspring. And angels shall enter unto them from every gate (saying): "Salamun Alaikum (peace be upon you) for that you persevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the final home!"
